Evaporator Coil Installation

We select each cooling coil based on the design of your home. This is reflected in the engineering balance point with regard to humidity removal, with maximum performance. This includes an expansion valve, sight glass, and refrigerant charge.

Of course, installation of any coil will be slanted toward the drain. In addition, the airflow must be balanced and checked after installation and adjusted if necessary. When this is done correctly, you will benefit from maximum humidity removal and comfort, with minimum operating cost, maintenance and a longer system life. With the correct coil, total life cycle costs are significantly lowered.

Installation of a new Evaporator Coil includes the following:

  • City & State code required heavy-duty custom 2 lb density insulation for sheet metal transition from the furnace to the coil. (Horizontal only)
  • New super insulated 2lb density insulation for sheet metal supply air plenum and custom designed balancing dampers.
  • Mastic duct sealer is used to seal the duct joints involved in the installation.
  • New heavy-duty stainless steel composite auxiliary overflow pan. * (Horizontal coils only)
  • Tie the main drain and overflow drains and upgrade if required to improve drainage.
  • "Tee" and shut off valve in the drain lines to assist in cleaning the drain line.
  • Replace exposed drain lines with new lines as far as accessible to current codes.
  • Adjustable expansion valve and sight glass used to balance refrigerant charge.
  • Hard start kit on the condenser unit if required.
  • City & State code required access doors on both sides of the cooling coil for easy inspection and cleaning when required.
  • Install plywood flooring where possible for service area as required by code.

*Our secondary drain pan (for horizontal slab coils only) is custom built of heavy-duty stainless steel composite materials for increased life. Should the overflow pan fill up with water, stainless steel pans avoid the rusty water runoff.

Your new coil is designed to outperform the existing coil. Therefore, it will pull out more humidity causing more water flow to your drain. It is advisable to have your drain lines snaked by a plumber to alleviate any blockages or situations that may cause a backup. Central City Air is not responsible for clogged drain lines or damage caused by clogged drain lines. By Texas state law, Central City Air can only work on the drain line to its termination point to the home plumbing system.
